hahahahh! From Ric Federau April 15 2010

April 7, 2010 :: Zen, I’m 28 and listening from Iowa (yes I usually have to trailer to the snow) and I love having access to a radio show that is purely committed to sledding. (Hmmm, well buddy, we occassionally talk about ATVs and Boats in the summer) I discovered your show on I-Tunes and listen to your podcasts whenever they are posted. Please keep it going!! My brother and I are so passionate about sledding, and we’re passing our passion (obsession) onto our younger brother (15 yr old). He and his friends are starting to get pretty serious about the sport, so my twin brother and I are working hard to be good examples on the trail and we are very serious about trail safety. We work hard to convey this message to the younger riders and it’s become a good way for me to keep talking about sledding! Thanks for your show, please right back if you get a chance, I would love to hear from you!

April 10, 2010 :: Zen, Thanks for your reply! Sure I'll join you on your show! Here in Iowa, a lot of our trails consist of riding the roadway ditches, sometimes groomed, but usually not. I'm not sure how much riding you see like that in your area, (lots of ditch bangin here too in Saskatchewan!) but here in Iowa we refer to this as "ditch banging". Given the agriculture in our area, we have a lot of farm fields that are flat and wide open, which gets the wind blowing to make some good drifts in ditches and fields. Great for jumping! Ditch riding presents a little more possibility of sled damage if you're not careful as culverts and other rigid things tend to hide under the snow. I've seen a number of sleds totaled out from this. We also have a number of trail systems (some of them groomed regularly), clubs work hard to maintain these, especially during seasons following low snow years as support for the sport takes a hit. I could talk about some of these things if it wouldn't be too boring for your show, and I wouldn't want to take too much air-time.

We also trailer to MI, WI, and occasionally MN.

hello !

Once again thank you for recommending Auberge Le Au Pied de La Chute in St- Michel-des-Saints Quebec., Denis and Carrol were the best hosts we have ever had at a hotel. Such wonderful people, and the food fantastic. We struggle each day without our 6 course dinner.

Denis even came on a sled trip with us up to Kanawata for the night. He also took us to his wooden cabing on the lake in the mountains, what a fantastic retreat, i want one!

As for sledding, i'm quite addicted now was very disappointed, with the fast deterioration of the snow ,cutting short my intended sledding time by 5 days. The tracks at St Michel Des Saints are amazing, most of the tracks were still good but there was km of dirt by the end before arriving on snow , so the rental company were beginning to get hesitant about renting sleds out.

I will doing my very best to plan a trip next February to this same location. Unfortunately never made it to makinac due to the fact they had no snow left, so we just extended our stay at denis's.
Denis and Carrol also took us to the sugar shack for lunch and drove us to the bus at Juilette.so very helpful.

So hope all is well, hope you got to ride this season just gone.

Jarrod and Sara
